Final Gecko Stamp

This is my third and final Stamp and it of a gecko. This was the easiest of the three to make because I now know the software well and I know what some of the tools and modifiers do and what’s best to use. I spent most of the time playing around with the materials on the gecko but the results are real well.

Final Frog Stamp

Here is my second stamp of a frog. It when better then the snake did. I like the way I’ve placed the frog on a lily pad I fill that work real will and made the frog image a lot better and more real. The only thing is when I when to go back in to 3Ds max the frogs back legs have gone funny when I opened the file the back legs have gone all the way to the over side of the screen and the bones have gone and the legs are not longer bent anymore.

Final Snake Stamp

This is my first stamp of a snake and I’m happy with the out come. I spent most of my time on this one because I was new to the software (3Ds Max) that I did not know where or what things did, I had to remake the snake because when I went to add the materials they would not go on the way I liked and so I decided to restart the snake. Then I did not get the snake to bend that well and had to lean a new way of doing this and that was by using the bone modifier tool.

Stamp Template

I have made a stamp template in Photoshop to present my three images. All I did to make it was make a box then with the Elliptical marquee tool I selected the area and delete it and when around the hole box deleting the areas. Then I got an image of an stamp and cut out the queens head and edited it.

Third Stamp Gecko Development Part 4

Now that the materials are done I then used the turbo smooth modifier to get the gecko looking smoother to make it look more real and to give it more of a gecko look.

Third Stamp Gecko Development Part 3

I then has to set two ID keys one for the top half of the gecko and the second ID key for the bottom half the gecko. I then added the materials to the Gecko and played around with the diffuse colour and the bump to get the two gecko skin like material. I then added a gecko material for the eyes. I then used UVW mapping modifier to play around with the mapping of the materials.

Third Stamp Gecko Development Part 2

I made some legs and feet for the gecko by using cylinders and using the edit poly I played around with the vertexes, edges and polygons to get the legs looking more real. I then used the bend modifier to bend the feet in to a gecko-like position.

Third Stamp Gecko Development Part 1

This is the start of my third stamp of a Gecko. I started off with a cylinder and played around with the vertexes, edges and polygons to get a gecko-like body. I then made a cylinder and used the bend modifier to start the leg off.

Second Stamp Frog Development Part 7

For the background I got an Image of a lily pad and using the same technique as the leaf of doing a black and white copy of it in Photoshop and then importing it in to 3ds Max using a plane I then played with the vertex using the soft selection tool in edit poly to make the lily pad look more real then being flat.

Second Stamp Frog Development Part 6

Now that the materials are done I then used the turbo smooth modifier to get the frog looking smoother to make it look more real and to give it more of a frog look.

Second Stamp Frog Development Part 5

Now that the frog is made I then added materials to the frog and played around with the diffuse colour and the bump to get a frog skin like material. I then did the same for the eyes. I then used UVW mapping modifier to play around with the mapping of the materials.

Second Stamp Frog Development Part 4

For the frogs eye I used a sphere and just scaled it to size and placed it in the area where I made an eye socket. I then used the mirror tool to made the over half of the frog. With two half of a frog I then selected one half when to edit poly and attach the two half and selected vertexes and started to weld the two half’s together.

Second Stamp Frog Devlopement Part 3

I then started to work to the back leg of the frog. I made a cylinder and when to systems and used the bone tool I then made some bones and then had to add the bones to the cylinder but for that I had to on Ik solvers then HI solve so the bones will move in to place when I wanted them to bend. To add the bones to the cylinder I had to use the skin modifier. When I bend the cylinder some parts of it did not look right so I had to use the edit poly and collapse some polygons.

Second Stamp Frog Devlopement Part 2

I then made some feet for the frog by using a cylinder and using the edit poly I played around with the vertexes, edges and polygons to get the feet looking more real. I then used the bend modifier to bend the feet in to a frog-like position.

Second Stamp Frog Devlopement

Here is the start of my second stamp of a frog. I started off with a box and played around with the vertexes, edges and polygons to get a frog like-body shape. I then made a cylinder and used the bend modifer to start the leg off.

Snakes Background

I chose a pebble type background with a rock in the foreground to help camouflage the snake and make it seem more authentic to its orginal habitat.

Saturday 14 November 2009

My snakes has a new flexible body and looks a lot more like a snake then its head has been cut off and attach on top of a pringles pot. I would say I spent about 6 hours leaning and using on how to use the bone tool in my work. I have to say that I’m happy with the results. Now just need a background and my snake stamp is done.

New Snake

Here is my new snake as I didn't like the texture on the previous snake, I had some problems with the texture as I felt that the snake didn’t look real. I redesigned the snake changing the texture to make it seem more real and life like.

By doing this I have acquired new skills and my skills and techniques in using 3D Max have vastly improved. Next I’m going to learn how to use the bone tool so that I can bend my snake’s body to shape it and position it in a life like pose. Then after that I’m going to design a background for the snake.
